TINY HOME DESIGN COMPETITION

Tiny Home Design Competition

On behalf of the AIA West Texas Chapter, we would like to invite the surrounding AIA chapters of Abilene, Amarillo, El Paso, and Lubbock to participate in a Tiny Home design competition on behalf of The Field’s Edge Tiny Home Community in Midland, TX.





January 2019           Kick off Tiny Home Design Competition

May 12th-Aug 2nd    Finalist Exhibition at Museum of the Southwest in Midland,  TX.

 May 16th                 Exhibition Cocktail and winner announcement



 Entry Fee:                $150



The main objective of this competition is to afford The Field’s Edge Tiny Home Community with buildable designs for their master plan in housing the chronically homeless population in West Texas. The winning designs of the competition will be of the first set of homes to be constructed in the community!


The vision of The Field’s Edge is to build a permanent, supportive, Tiny Home community for the chronically homeless population in West Texas. This community will bring up to one-hundred formerly homeless residents of the Permian Basin into the care and support of The Field’s Edge Family. 


The competition is open to all design professionals, at least one registered architect on each team. Nonrefundable $150 per registered proposal, as many team members per team. Finalists should be able to prepare construction documents in a second phase after competition suitable for city of Midland’s building and permit use. Digital submissions will include necessary elevations, floor plan, at least one full section view, a detailed section view, a render of design proposal, and display of any innovative strategies or systems used. Scaled model not requirement but will contribute to overall presentation display. Examples of finalists and winners of a similar contest held in Austin, TX are provided below. We extend our competition invitation to the public and all participants to a cocktail event on Thursday, May 16th, 2019 at The Museum of the Southwest in Midland, TX. This event will showcase finalists and announce the winning designs, chosen by a jury.

  
The competition aims design considerations to a minimalist shelter suitable to house one person for an extended period of time.
