Principles of Glass Selection for Facades: From Rendering to Reality

This one-hour session discusses the foundations of the glass selection process and explores the aesthetic options available to meet project design and performance requirements. In addition, there is a special focus on understanding the variety of performance coatings and customized glass fabrication options.
 Objectives

  1. Understand the key criteria in selecting glass types and how those choices can influence the buidlings's aesthetic condition and trade-offs can be considered between performance and design criteria.
  2. How glass samples should be viewed to gain the most accurate impression of appearance.
  3. Examine the variety of glass types and sputter-coated low-E products in the market and how each differ in appearance and performance.
  4. Explore a variety of fabrication techniques that provide additional glass customization and code compliance - including lamination, silkscreen and spandrel applications.
  5. Review completed projects and recognize how particular glass types were selected and how they met the designer's intent.

Single-Ply Roofing Technology - C10

This one-hour session will included topics ranging from industry issues, such as enhanced roofing system design options to trends within the market including ANSI/SPRI ES-1 for metal edging, ASCE 7, and the International Building Code, as well as roof system warranties.

This presentation will focus on the role single-ply membrane plays in today’s roofing market and its impact on tomorrow’s roof system performance.

 Objectives

  1. Comprehending the differences between EPDM, TPO, and PVC.
  2. Learning the basic roof components; insulation, fasteners, adhesives, and typical and non-standard roofing assemblies.
  3. Understanding the need for proper uplift design in respect of certification, roof assembly and perimeter edge.
  4. Realize the differences in “warranty language” and what to watch out for so the building owner receives the most comprehensive coverage.
